Avoiding the Question

It is a frustrating aspect of council work when issues are raised at meetings of the full council only to meet a collective amnesia of the facts.

Such was the response last night, to my question to the Leader. As a follow up to a written question which was not fully answered, I asked whether the savings she had announced of £500,000 up to march 2009, by reducing senior management jobs would be exceeded by the associated costs. The leader could not recall the figures and the finance portfolio holder gave information which he later admitted was misleading.

So it would appear that the public are not supposed to know the answer (the detailed debate on the issue has been held in private). My next move - a question under the Freedom of Information Act.
