The price of election gimmicks
Just before the last District elections, the now controlling group of the Council did a u-turn and started opposing the move towards a single site for all Council offices ( and others) in Malvern.
The single site issue was designed to save money by allowing greater efficiency. The cost at the time (to be financed from property sales) was £4.6 million. Upon gaining control they voted to scrap the idea.
Having thought about it for two and a half years, they have come up with a new plan. By spending £6.6 million they can have the Council offices split over two sites and obviously make fewer efficiency savings. This ignores the expenditure on property and extra costs in the meantime. This probably means a cost of around £1m for each year of delay.
On two occasions they refused to let this be discussed in public - I wonder why!
