Efficiency or Bureaucracy
The Council is now faced with having to produce an annual statement for the government to demonstrate that it is making efficiencies. Improving performance is obviously necessary and something that I successfully promoted as former portfolio holder for finance. Reporting on them and having them inspected is less laudable. It strikes me that the best way to demonstrate improvements is by keeping Council Tax increases to the rate of inflation whilst improving services - getting rid of the bureaucracy of inspections might even contribute to this!
