A European flavour to the posting having returned from holiday in france and having not yet dealt with the large pile of Council related papers and correspondence that have gathered.
It is very interesting that the french have also decided to call a referendum on the european constitution but have managed to schedule theirs for next year. The level of debate is also more detailed than ours with suggestions of the questions to be asked.
1. Are you in favour of a president representing the European Union.
2.Are you in favour of a european foreign minister with a european foreign policy.
3. Are you in favour of decisions by majority rather than unanimous vote.
These points cover only part of the issues but do indicate a level of sophistication to the debate that I hope we can follow when we eventually get our chance to vote. If france can do it next year, why can't we?
