Recycling
There is much in the news about charging to collect refuse that is not recycled.I have long believed that the source should be tackled first-especially packaging.Furthermore,in a throw away society products are built for cheapness rather than durability and have to be replaced more frequently.
Councils need to increase the scope of materials that can be recycled. There are currently items that according to the manufacturers can be recycled but are not accepted by the Council. I actually produced such items to the Council at a meeting but with little apparent effect.
What we need is for manufacturers, retailers consumers and councils to tackle the problem together. By all means charge those who refuse to play their part, but charging as the first option is the easy way out to pass the buck to someone else.
