Polytunnels
An issue that is causing problems in this and other rural areas is the use of Polytunnels in agriculture. There is a conflict between farmers who need an efficient method of growing their crops and residents who consider the plastic covering an eyesore.
The Council's planning officers currently consider that the "Spanish Tunnels" do not need planning permission as they are not permanent structures. In response to this dilemma some councils have introduced codes of conduct concerning their use to try to reconcile the two views and I will be pressing MHDC to examine this further to establish whether such an approach might be effective.
